Anybody out there with an older Colnago? FWIW I have an all steel MXL, a Super, a (very rare) Regal an International and, for every day (!) a C50 Anniversary. I'm also interested in other classic steel bikes, I have a Jack Taylor Anniversary, a Hetchins Italia and a Merckx Corsa 01. What about a "Classic Ride" sometime?

Hi, I've a Super in plain blue and chrome which I bought for £325 from JD Whisker (which was in Kilburn London I think) in the late 1980's, and is my only bike other than a Brompton folder. It's been in store for 5 years, but I'm just starting to use it again, and I'm particularly appreciating it for the vintage qualities it seems to have gained since I put it away. I was thinking about getting something modern in aluminium and carbon for about £1500, but now I'm not so sure. I don't like how they look! I like the plain paint, chrome and polished alloy look of the Colnago, but modern bikes seem to be mostly black, and therefore a bit drab, or seem to have wild paint jobs.

The Colnago Super has some of the paint coming off, and there is some rust and the chrome is a bit dull. Does anyone know if the whole thing could be re-enamelled and chromed. Who can do that in the UK?

Would it come up well with a good metal polish? Can anyone recommend a product?

Thanks

Mark

I have a Master X light 2003 (all steel). Its a beautiful frame AD04 paintjob, which is amazing. I bought t from GB cycles in 2005 - it was unsold stock, and only used it for one summer, as i raced this year and have a specialized for that purpose.

Unfortunately it is a bit small for me so i am about to put it up for sale. I will be replacing with another classic colly though, probably a C40 HP if i can find a decent one at a decent price. I am however tempted by the 2008 MXL, expecially in the Saronni goodwood paint.

Cheers

I have an old Colnargo which seems rare. it is a 90's art decor titanium frame with full dura ace (the first year shimano did the combined brake and gear shift). This bike was only around a short time but was ridden in the tour de france my toni rommiger. i'm thinking of prting with it but really dont know how much its worth as i fancy a new carbon fibre to help me up the yorshire hills. Anyone interested?

Hi Colnago fans. I have this beautiful Colnago and it's only me that knows how good it is as my friends and family are not in to cycling. I bought it in 1997. I have been looking at the current Colnago range and I have to say i don't like the design of them. They all seem to have a sloping top tube, which seems to be common with all the frame manufactures.

The bike is a 56 cm Colnago Master Olympic painted in Casini yellow art decor. The condition of the bike is excellent, however there is some rust on the rear triangle, not much though, and two chips of paint were the bolt for the seat tube is housed. I took the Colnago to a local bike shop and the lads there all stopped what they were doing and took a good luck at it. Which for me says everything about the bike and the WOW factor that it has!

The components:
9spd Dura Ace 1st addition. Purchased 1997.
Cassette 11-21, front rings 42-53.
Updated the hubs; front 7800, back 7850.
Ambrosio Nemesis rims, 36 holes. Purchase 2010.
Swiss double butted spokes. Purchased 2010
Vittoria Corsa Evo CX 21-28" Tubs Purchased 2010. Not puntured yet!
KMC 9spd chain (silver) Purchased 2010.
Top of the range SRAM cabling(White) Purchased 2010
Look PP357 Pedals(black)
Look 1" Quilled ergo stem. Purchased 2010.
Took some time finding as they don't make them any more.
Cineli Giro Handlebars 64-42. Purchased 1994.
FSA K-force. Purchased 2010. Very nice!
Specialized Toupe 149 saddle, Titanium railed. Purchased 2010.

I had a choice to either buy a new bike or invest in the Colnago. As you can tell by the purchase dates with some of the equipment I chose to invest and update the Colnago.

My wish list for the bike:

Royce Racing Gold bottom bracket. Size of axle may be a problem.
Mavic SL TI pedals.
Garmin edge 800 GPS unit. Mega expensive!
The bike will be complete after those three purchases and will be as good as my money can get it. Hope what I have written has been of interest.

Andrew
