I am looking at buying a President. Does anybody have any comment regarding this. As well as being a nice looking bike I am also wanting it to race well.

Hi Paul,

I haven't ridden one but I have seen them up close and it is a very nice looking bike. From what I remember it was discontinued a year or two back, but I know some shops still have the odd frame in their inventory. I believe it's a monocoque front triangle (top tube, seat tube, downtube) with a bonded rear triangle (seatstays, and chainstays), rather than separate tubes bonded together with lugs like on the C50.

To be honest Colnago frames are so well made I doubt this makes much of a difference in terms of ride quality from the other top end models he offers, but it may be a little stiffer. There are a couple of reviews on roadbikereview.com which may help with some more info. The new monocoque frame for 2009 is the CX-1 just in case you were interested.

Whatever you go for, all Colnago's are built to race, I guess frame choice just depends on what you want out of a particular bike. I don't know if it helps but Mike Perry at Maestro cycles here in the UK knows everything there is to know about Colnago. I bought my C50 from him and I wouldn't buy any where else. It might be worth geting in touch with him as I am sure he could give you sound advice on the president (he might even have one or two left at a good price!) and all the other Colnago frames.

Paul,
I Ride a Colnago President. I bought this bike two years ago April.
Fantastic bike. What fun. If you look at so many of the new and great bikes of today, many have the tech blood lines of this bike. Not that it was all invented with the Colnago President, but certainly in the concert, the President stands out. Look at the Cervelo R3 SL. Great bike that echos the President. This kind of rippling effect is what will make it a classic. Man.... I love my bike. You will not go wrong, if you can find one. No one sells a Colnago President. Not after owning one. If you don't find what you are looking for, the R3 SL is a beautiful frame as well. Very competitively priced. Amazing ride.
My President turns heads where ever I go. It is always fun to meet riders and talk our sport and the hardware that goes with it.
I hope you find what you are looking for. I am excited for you.
all my best,
Mark Fulwider
